Color “Music Lover,” or your own approved illustration, using the technique(s) reviewed in class. Be sure to include highlights as well as shading. You’re also welcome to add a background or additional elements. Honestly, just have fun with it.
How do you hand it in? Via your “GRD 107 Flickr Pool” of course. Which many of you didn’t even know about until now! -For shame.
HANDING IT IN:
- Upload your work to Flickr
- Add it to the “GRD 107 Flickr Pool“
- Provide me with the link.
- Celebrate.

We’ll be learning to color lineart this week. As usual, I’ll walk you through a few techniques for coloring lineart and then let you loose to color on your own. What will you be coloring for your homework? An illustration I provide. However, this announcement is specifically for illustrators. Got a personal illustration you’d like to color for the assignment -instead of the illustration provided? -Good. You can use your own work. All you have to do is bring the image to class so I can approve it. A sketch, pen ‘n ink, original or scan will suffice. Obviously the image has to be black ‘n white.

Create an “Action” of the “Color Correction” process we reviewed in class. Ultimately you’ll have a single Action that automates the steps. By “steps” I mean a user of this action will be able to:
- Open an image.
- Activiate your “Color Correction” action.
- Walk through the creation of black, white, and gray markers points.
- The Levels dialogue box is provided where the user can select black, white, and gray targets.
- User selects “okay.”
- “Color Correction” action ends.
Keep in mind that the end results produces a color correction process that works on any image, it doesn’t leave any extra Layers, and leaves the markers behind for later use.
The final product should be a “.atn” attachment. As always, email me the results in advance of our next class.
REMINDER:
- Test your action!
- Work together

This exercise is the same as last weeks…only different. Again, utilize the images captured from both groups and create a composite using the Layer Masking techniques reviewed. Additional special effects are welcomed -even encouraged considering your goal is to suspend belief. Once complete you’ll need to…
- Visit Flickr.
- Upload both group composites to your Flickr account.
- Add both composites to a Flickr Group. Any Photoshop related group is fine. You decide.
- Email me the URL’s to both images in advance of next class.
Relax, collaborate, and try to create something you’d share with someone outside of class.

Take the images and composite them into one document utilizing Layer Masking. Once complete you will have a single image featuring multiple versions of the same individual performing various antics. Now for some tips:
- Start on the homework early while the process is fresh in your head. It makes a big difference -even if you only do a portion of the work at first.
- Browse the collection of images first. Make a plan. It takes all of 1-minute to preview what’s available, select which images you’ll either use or ignore, and then begin. Anything less than that simply adds hours.
- Collect all the images into one document first. Meaning you should have a stack of Layers first -then apply Masking.
- Consult your notes, talk to a classmate, and/or comment on the blog.
- Have fun.
Once complete you should:
- Have a composite of both Team A and Team B’s imagery
- Format? .jpg and there’s no need to down-size. The “Save As…” approach is best as opposed to “Save for Web…”
- Register for a free Flickr account
- Post your image to your Flickr account
- Send me the URL to your Flickr images -which will include both composites

Nippon Delivery
Alter a minimum of the truck’s lower half (teal?) to whatever color you like while preserving the markings. Be my guest if you’d like to pimp the rest of the vehicle out (e.g. “new rims,” “chrome accessories,” etc). Also feel free to alter the background.
Blouse
Alter it from it’s current “mustard” color to PANTONE Solid Coated 5565 C.
Sage Top
-You guessed it. Alter the top to whatever color or pattern you see fit -while obviously deviating from the current “mustard” color. Only alter the top. Nothing else.
Once complete, email me a .jpg in advance of the next class.

This assignment, your first real one, has two options. Select one from below. The goal is to apply the tools and/or features we discussed in class in a creative way.
Option #1
Select one of the images from the “class 02_homework” folder within the “workarea,” alter it using the tools and/or features we experimented with in class, and email me the results based on the “hand-in” specifications below.
Option #2
Take a picture of yourself with a digital camera, alter it using the tools and/or features we experimented with in class, and email me the results based on the “hand-in” specifications below.
Hand-In Specifications
You’ll be emailing me your results -just like the last assignment. But first, you’ll need to resize the image. First insure the image is 72 dpi and set its largest dimension, whether width or height, to 800 pixels. File format? Make sure it’s a .jpg please. Here’s a brief outline:
- Resolution = 72 dpi
- Height or width maximim = 800 px.
- .jpg format via email
That’s it. Questions? Add them to the “comments” area here. Otherwise, go have fun now.
